Privacy policy
Your books stay yours.
Last updated 28 October 2026
In short: Knaizen MyBooks reads the books in your own iCloud Drive and never uploads them to us. Your reading data (position, highlights, goals, reflections, chats) syncs through your own private iCloud database, which we cannot read. You sign in with Apple, and the details Apple gives us stay on your iPhone. The book chat runs on the phone by default; only if you are a subscriber and choose the Claude engine are the passages it needs and your question sent, through our server, to Anthropic to answer you. We store none of it. No ads, no trackers, no analytics.
Who we are
Knaizen MyBooks is made by Knaizen, an app studio of Khalil Labs (SMC-Private) Limited, a company registered in Pakistan ("we", "us"). Questions about privacy: support@knaizen.com.
Your account: Sign in with Apple
MyBooks asks you to sign in with Apple before first use. Apple gives the app a stable identifier for you that is unique to our apps, and, only the first time and only if you choose to share them, your name and an email address (which can be Apple's private relay address). The app keeps these in your iPhone's keychain, on that device. We do not run an account server and we do not receive a copy. We never see your Apple Account password.
Your books
Your EPUB and PDF files stay where you keep them: in folders you choose in your own iCloud Drive. The app reads the catalog and covers from there, and when you open a book, your iPhone downloads that one file from your iCloud Drive to the phone. Books are never uploaded to Knaizen and never pass through our servers. Apple stores your iCloud Drive under your Apple Account and Apple's privacy terms.
Your reading data and iCloud sync
The app keeps what you do while reading:
- reading position, bookmarks, highlights and notes;
- want-to-read and finished lists, and your collections;
- your daily reading goal, reading time and history;
- Reflections journal entries and the passages you link to them;
- book chats you keep;
- reader settings such as theme, font and size.
This is stored on your iPhone and, if you are signed in to iCloud, synced through the app's private database in your own iCloud (Apple CloudKit). That private database belongs to your Apple Account: it counts against your own iCloud storage, and neither we nor anyone else can read it. If you are not signed in to iCloud, it stays on the iPhone only.
App lock
If you turn on the app lock, Face ID is handled entirely by iOS: the app only learns whether it succeeded, never your face data. The app passcode is stored in your iPhone's keychain.
Talk to the book (AI chat)
To answer a question, the app picks a few passages from the book you are chatting with (near where you are reading and those that match your question) and gives them, with your question and the recent chat, to an AI engine.
| Engine | What leaves your iPhone |
|---|---|
| Apple on-device (default, on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence) | Nothing. The model runs on the phone. |
| Claude (subscribers, only if you choose it) | The selected passages, your question and the recent messages of that chat, plus what is needed to confirm your subscription is active. They go through our server at api.knaizen.com to Anthropic, the company that makes Claude, which uses them to write the answer. We do not store the passages, questions or answers, and we do not send your name or email. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models, and keeps it only for a limited time under its commercial terms. |
Whole books are never sent. Chats you keep are stored like your other reading data, on the iPhone and in your own iCloud.
Payments
Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card or bank details. Apple tells the app whether your subscription is active; we do not receive your name or email address from Apple for this.
What leaves your iPhone, all together
- Sync of your books and reading data with your own iCloud, to Apple, under your Apple Account.
- Sign in with Apple and App Store purchases, to Apple.
- Only when you use the Claude engine: the chat request described above, to our server at api.knaizen.com and on to Anthropic. Like any web server, ours briefly records the network (IP) address of each request for security and abuse prevention; these logs are deleted within 14 days.
What we do not do
- No uploading of your books.
- No advertising, no ad networks, no analytics or tracking SDKs, no selling or sharing of data.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No use of your books, highlights, reflections or chats to train AI models.
Our websites
knaizen.com and mybooks.knaizen.com set no cookies and use no analytics or trackers. Our web server keeps standard access logs (including IP addresses) for up to 14 days for security.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account: in the app, open Settings and choose Delete Account. This removes your account details from the app on that iPhone. Because we keep no account on our servers, nothing about you is left with us. Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription: cancel it in your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
- Delete your synced data: remove items in the app at any time, or delete all of the app's iCloud data in your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, Manage Account Storage, Knaizen MyBooks.
- Stop sign in with Apple: in your iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then Sign in with Apple, Knaizen MyBooks, Stop Using.
- Keep the chat on the phone: choose the Apple on-device engine in the chat.
- Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on the phone.
Children
Knaizen MyBooks is meant for adults and older teenagers managing their own book collection. It is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what leaves your iPhone, we will also say so in the app before it takes effect.
